Experience the idyllic beauty of Bali and help us keep it that way
PLEASE NOTE: OUR ECO TOUR IS PAUSED AT THE MOMENT. We invite you to visit our traditional Balinese village and get to know a Balinese family who has launched a waste management and recycling program. During this 3.5 hour tour you’ll visit a beach temple and join a Balinese ceremony honoring Tri Hita Karena (harmony with nature, community and the Gods). You’ll also participate in a beach cleanup, visit the recycling center, make crafts from recycled materials and have lunch with your village hosts.

A Few Details
The Keep Bali Beautiful Team will meet you at recycling program founder Darmawan’s house in Tangkas village. We will introduce ourselves while having snacks, coffee and tea at his family bale.
Your visit will include a trip to Watu Klotok temple for a traditional Balinese ceremony, a short beach cleanup activity, and a visit to the village recycling center that Darmawan founded. There also will be time if you wish to make crafts from recycled plastic and to harvest fruit and veggies from the family garden.
We will also discuss the theme of this experience—how Tangkas village and the region are working to Keep Bali Beautiful. We will discuss the Balinese Hindu idea of Tri Hita Karena, which is harmony with nature, the community, and the Gods. We will learn how the introduction of plastic and modernism has diverted us from the path of Tri Hita Karena and has created a major pollution problem for Bali.
Finally, we show you how Tangkas villagers came together to launch a recycling program and improved their harmony with nature. And, how this program has become a model for the rest of Bali.

Your Hosts
Hi, we are Darmawan and Komang Cex who will be your hosts. Darmawan is from Tangkas Village where my family have been farmers for five generations. I founded a village recycling program about 7-years ago with Keep Bali Beautiful’s help. Now that program has expanded to the entire Klungkung region. I combine working on my family farm with my job managing recycling and waste management for the regional government. I am married and have two young children. Komang is the founder of Madu Tamba which collects honey from wild jungle bees and distributes it to people all over Bali. He is also an experienced translator and guide focusing on Bali’s unique cultural and natural treasures. We hope you will come and join us for a tour of Tangkas village, meet the leaders of the village and have lunch with Darmawan’s family.

Where your money goes. All of your contribution will be used to fund the Tangkas Village Recycling Program (TPS) for such things as paying for fuel, staff, equipment maintenance, and other operational costs. This Recycling Program has been running for about 7-years and serves more than 1,000 people in Tangkas Village. They pick up waste every two days, and recycle or compost 97% of it, with the remainder going to an approved landfill. The Regional Governor tapped TPS founder Darmawan to make TPS a model for the entire Klungkung Regency.
Reviews:
“A really unique look at a traditional Balinese village and how they are addressing the global issue of us using way too much plastic…I had a great time and would recommend this tour to people who are interested in peeking behind the curtain and getting a glimpse of Balinese life.”

“As soon as I arrived at Darmawan’s home I felt so warmly welcomed. The food was all homemade and wonderful and the insight I gained to the culture and traditions was more than I learned in the last four weeks in Bali.”

“Keep Bali Beautiful was a wonderful experience.
We earned a lot about the Balinese culture, their delicious food and the recycling process they started. We enjoyed the whole day and can recommend it for everyone who is interested in nature and culture! Also our young kids enjoyed everything – and had so much fun with the local kids and crafted little things out of plastic waste.”Family from Austria
